AVAA Chief Executive Troy Williams
.

The Chief Executive of the Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA) is Troy Williams, a senior non-profit and industry association executive with more than two decades of experience leading national organisations, engaging with ministers and senior officials, and advancing policy reform across skills and tertiary education, medical devices and the property and construction sectors. With a down-to-earth approach, he is widely regarded for his ability to represent industry interests credibly within government, and for strengthening member-driven organisations through disciplined advocacy, sound governance and constructive stakeholder engagement.

Mr Williams has held Chief Executive Officer roles across several national peak bodies, including the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA), the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA), the Australian Institute of Building (AIB), and, for a short period, the National Farmers’ Federation (NFF). These roles have required sustained policy engagement with Commonwealth and state governments, regulators and statutory authorities, often in complex and politically sensitive environments.

At ADIA, he led a period of organisational strengthening and national recognition, with the association being named National Association of the Year. During his tenure, ADIA’s flagship event, ADX Sydney, attracted more than 10,000 participants, establishing it as one of Australia’s largest trade exhibitions.

As AIB Chief Executive Officer, an organisation incorporated by Royal Charter, Mr Williams worked within a long-established professional and constitutional framework supporting leadership in the building and construction sector, and served as a Director of the Australian Construction Industry Forum (ACIF). Earlier in his career, he was Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Fire Protection Association Australia (FPA Australia), with responsibility for policy, codes and standards, including a period working with the US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in Boston, Massachusetts.

In the education and skills sector, Mr Williams’ leadership of ITECA positioned him as a recognised policy advocate. He was one of a small number of industry representatives invited to participate in the Albanese Government’s Jobs and Skills Summit, and has served on senior advisory bodies including the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Skilled Migration, the Australian Universities Accord Ministerial Reference Group, and the Australian Government’s vocational education and training (VET) Stakeholder Committee. He has also contributed more than a decade to councils and committees of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), and also work with Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA), plus has made multiple appearances before committees of the Australian Parliament.

In recognition of his broader contribution to the association sector, Mr Williams was inducted into the Association Hall of Fame.  In recognition of his accomplishments at AIB, he was awarded the status of an AIB Life Fellow (LFAIB).

In taking-up the role of AVAA Chief Executive, Mr Williams said it was an opportunity to give back to the non-profit sector, applying his policy, governance and advocacy experience to strengthen professional standards and support effective engagement with government and regulators. He divides his time between his home in Port Douglas, where he is undertaking postgraduate studies in constitutional law with a focus on federal–state relations and in Canberra, supporting AVAA’s members and national advocacy agenda.
