JOINING THE AVAA

The AVAA was formed in 1953 and is the only association for both auctioneers and valuers.

The AVAA is an industry based, self-governing body who are affiliated with international standards providers USPAP and IVS.

The Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA) is governed by a constitution ratified by The Australian Securities and Investments Commission. All members are also bound by a Code of Ethics. Any member who breaches the AVAA’s Code of Ethics is liable to disciplinary action by the Association.

Voluntary membership comprises Corporate, Certified Practising Auctioneer, Certified Practising Valuer, Associate and Life members. All categories of members must be practicing Auctioneers and/or Valuers. Members have required statutory levels of experience and are encouraged to pursue ongoing education.

Corporate and Certified Practising Auctioneer and Valuer members are required to hold Professional Indemnity Insurance and Corporate and Certified Practising Auctioneer members are required to maintain a Trust Account which is subject to an annual audit. An Audit Certificate has to be presented to the AVAA annually.

AVAA members are committed to providing the highest levels of professionalism in their dealings with clients.

MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

Membership is open to:

  • Auctioneers of goods, chattels, plant and equipment, fine art and antiques
  • Valuers of goods, chattels, plant and equipment, fine art and antiques
  • Corporations in the auctioneering and valuation industries
  • Individuals working for auction and/or valuation businesses or within associated industries

Membership fees:

For all new members there is an initial, one-off entrance fee payable on approval of membership to the Association, and an annual subscription fee for each year (payable pro-rata for the first year).

Fees cover the calendar year from 1 January to 31 December and membership is renewed subject to payment of fees, evidence of Professional Indemnity insurance (except for Associate Members) and provision of Trust Account audit certificate for Auctioneer members.

Annual membership subscription fees:

  • Corporate Member – please contact AVAA for rates
  • Certified Practising Auctioneer Member $650 + GST
  • Certified Practising Valuer Member $650 + GST
  • Certified Practising Auctioneer/Valuer $850 + GST
  • Associate Member $450 + GST
  • Joining Fee $375 + GST (one off)

Please note that new Certified Practising Valuer membership applications are subject to a vigorous vetting process and applicants may be required to complete the Fundamentals of Valuing Goods and Chattels, Plant and Equipment course following the AVAA Board’s review of their valuation reports.

It is strongly recommended applicants complete the course prior to applying for membership.
