Corporate Membership

This classification of membership is for the Corporation only and does not include any individual memberships of auctioneers and/or valuers

Corporate Members:

  1. Must be incorporated under the Corporations Law
  2. Must have a Certified Practising Auctioneer or Valuer Member of the AVAA in their employment
  3. Must appoint a nominee in the form set out in Appendix 2 to this Constitution, to act on the Company’s behalf at meetings and exercise the Corporate Member’s right to vote. The Nominee must be:
    1. a Certified Practising Auctioneer or Valuer Member of the AVAA, or
    2. a person who is deemed acceptable to the AVAA Board
  4. Must, if they conduct auctions and receive money on behalf of a person/business/company, maintain a trust account and must provide the Board with a certificate from a registered company auditor within the meaning of the Corporations Law to the satisfaction of the Board no more than once a year as required under Rule 11.5 hereof
  5. Must, prior to carrying out auctions and/or valuations not act in such capacity until evidence of professional indemnity insurance has been submitted and approved by the Board

In addition to Corporate Membership, Online Auction Accreditation is also available as an optional extension of your Membership. 

CERTIFIED PRACTISING AUCTIONEER MEMBER

A Certified Practising Auctioneer Member:

  1. Must conduct an auction sale at least once a year. The Board of the AVAA may grant exemption here in extenuating circumstances.
  2. Must be working as an auctioneer at the time of application for membership.
  3. Must have worked as an auctioneer for at least 2 years prior to the time of application for membership or satisfy the Board as to their competence, experience and suitability for this category of membership.
  4. If the Certified Practising Auctioneer conducts auctions and receives money on behalf of a person/business/company:
    1. If acting as a Sole Trader, the Auctioneer must maintain a trust account and must provide the Board with a certificate from a registered company auditor within the meaning of the Corporations Law to the satisfaction of the Board no more than once a year as required under Rule 11.5 hereof OR
    2. If in the employment of a non-corporate member, the company by whom the Auctioneer is employed must maintain a trust account and must provide the Board with a certificate from a registered company auditor within the meaning of the Corporations Law to the satisfaction of the Board no more than once a year as required under Rule 11.5 hereof.
  5. Must, prior to carrying out auctions, not act in such capacity until evidence of professional indemnity insurance has been submitted and approved by the Board.
  6. Must satisfy the Board as to their competence as an auctioneer and as to their good character.

CERTIFIED PRACTISING VALUER MEMBER

A Certified Practising Valuer member:

  1. Must conduct valuations on a regular basis. The Board of the AVAA may grant exemption here in extenuating circumstances.
  2. Must be working as a valuer of goods at the time of application for membership.
  3. Must have worked as a valuer of goods for at least 5 years prior to the time of application for membership or satisfy the Board as to their competence, experience and suitability for this category of membership.
  4. Must not act in such capacity of valuer until evidence of professional indemnity insurance has been submitted and approved by the Board.
  5. Must satisfy the Board as to their competence as a valuer of goods and as to their good character.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER

An Associate member:

  1. Must, if conducting auctions/valuations, satisfy the Board that they are working towards qualification as a Certified Practising Auctioneer or Valuer.
  2. Be working in an industry or organisation with affiliations or ties to the auctioneering and/or valuation industry and must satisfy the Board as to their suitability for this category of membership.
  3. Is not entitled to vote at any Annual General Meeting or General Meetings of AVAA as detailed under Rule 12.3 hereof.
  4. Is not entitled to use the AVAA registered Logo.
  5. May only mention their employer’s trading name on AVAA website or any list compiled by AVAA if it forms part of their own email address, if applicable.
  6. Can and must only use the membership designation ‘Associate AVAA’.
  7. Are required to declare on application to uphold the AVAA’s ethics and professional standards in all dealings.

LIFE MEMBER

A Life Member: may be any person who in the opinion of the Board has represented the AVAA (supporting its principal objectives) with distinction.
